The Fog

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge Him
and He will make your paths straight.

I drive around a low-lying bend of riverbed on my way back and forth to work every weekday. This morning in the early hours, even before the sun had rose, the fog was heavy in this particular stretch of road. As I went around the curve, I realized I couldn't’see the road, but because I travel it every day- I knew there was a curve there and I should slowly veer to the right. On both sides of the road are guard rails and beyond that the embankment drops and then hits the current river below.

I looked out over the fog and it seemed I was on top the clouds as I drove along and I was marveling at God’s handy-work and all the aspects of weather He has provided for us to enjoy, when I had to stop and think about the dangers of this fog- the inability to see and only because I was accustomed to this road- did I know I was safe to continue traveling ahead until the fog had lifted.

My life- our lives are like this sometimes. We’re enjoying everything around us, admiring our lives and our surroundings when lurking ahead is danger we can’t see because our heads are in a “fog”. We may or may not be in familiar territory, but that doesn’t change the aspect or threat of a very real danger- SIN. Make no mistake- sin is sin even if we see it coming or we don’t. If you’ve ever driven in the fog, you know you can’t see something until you’re right up on it and it can take you by surprise- sin is the same way.

When our heads are clear and fog-free- we can focus on what’s ahead with great expectations. We can navigate ourselves around dangers- around life’s curves and pot-holes. We can see clearly the road and keep straight and safe. But when sin fogs our heads or more importantly our hearts- we’re in unfamiliar, very dangerous territory and don’t think for one second satan doesn’t know this. He is a low-lying snake that is just waiting to pounce when he sees the opportunity to misguide us. And he’ll strike before we even know what hit us.

Friends, no matter what you’re dealing with in your life- let’s keep our eyes on the Road- Christ. Even when life’s circumstances come at us from all directions and we’re unsure of the road ahead- keep close to Him- relay on the Road you know- the True Path to safety. Fix your eyes on Him- don’t take them off and He will guide you safely home where He’s waiting for you and me to be with Him forever.

Heavenly Father, thank you so much for being my Road. Thank You for Your guidance when I'm misdirected and lost. You know I have been lost so often my by own doing and I praise You for always guiding me to the right path. Thank You for never giving up on me!- AMEN
